FARUG’S VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT

By Nikki Mawanda

As lovers all over the world celebrated Valentine’s Day 2008 and expressed their love with flowers and candle-lit dinners, FARUG celebrated the lovers’ day with sports in a sports day event which took place on Thursday February 14 at Kyadondo Rugby club. The event brought members of FARUG and those from partner organisations together in what turned out to be the best fun day out for FARUG members.

Members participated in games of football, athletics and pool. The first football match took place between the Red team and Green team and ended 5-6 to the Reds. The second match ended 1-2 also in favour of the Reds. It was a confirmation that FARUG members need alot of practice to prove themselves as good runners. They were outdone by FARUG members in 500meters through FARUG chairperson, Kasha Jacqueline who won in the 100 metres take. It was a good display of a promising sports team judging from the fact that members did not have any pre-training and yet proved to be good sports men and women. The most prolific participants in football and athletics won rainbow strings and whistles as a sign of celebrating kuchu activism.

Members took part in the pool tournament which took place later that day at a local gay-friendly bar, which also was the venue for the after party.

The event marked the beginning of FARUG’s sports day which would take place annually as a way of empowering its membership and developing individual talent.
